UFC Fight Night: Vieira vs Tate is a mixed martial arts event produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship that will take place on November 20, 2021 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, United States.
The pair were scheduled to meet at a Fight Night last month, but the clash was pulled from the card after Tate tested positive for Covid-19. Now recovered and ready to do battle in the Octagon, Tate (19-7) is eager to build a winning momentum after her third-round TKO of Marion Reneau back in July.
“I was pretty sick. Nothing alarming. A little bit of a fever. I had a pretty severe cough. I had sinus congestion. I wasn’t sleeping well at night. Taste and smell got weird, it was kind of muted,” said the former Strikeforce and UFC bantamweight champion.
“I tried really hard to talk myself into keeping the fight on 16 October, but the reality was I just wasn’t going to be on par to be at that 100 per cent mark and I have to be. That was a choice to delay.”
Vieira (11-2), meanwhile, is looking to bounce back from a defeat in her last match, with the Brazilian falling to a unanimous decision loss at the hands of Yana Kunitskaya back in February.
The 30-year-old is expecting a tough battle against Tate, but is looking forward to the challenge.
“It will be a war in there, and I will give my best. I’m very focused on this fight. It is one of the most important fights of my life,” said Vieira. “I feel like this is a great opportunity to show my work and my evolution, and also show the work I’ve been doing with my team.
“I hope I have a better performance. I’ve trained a lot for this fight, and I was able to have a full training camp knowing who my opponent would be the whole time. So, I think I will feel less pressure and I will get a little more loose in there.”
The main card opens with a bantamweight clash between Davey Grant and Adrian Yanez; followed by Joanne Calderwood v Taila Santos in the women’s flyweight division; another bantamweight battle between Rani Yahya and Kyung Ho Kang; and the co-main event sees No 6 ranked Michael Chiesa looking to edge further up the ladder when he faces Sean Brady.
