John Lineker has every intention of ending his title fight with Bibiano Fernandes standing, but he’s ready to be tested on the mat.

Lineker (34-9) challenges reigning bantamweight champion Fernandes (24-4) in the co-main event of “ONE Championship: Lights Out,” which takes place Friday at Singapore Indoor Stadium. The main card streams on the ONE Championship app and ONE Championship YouTube channel Friday at 7:30 a.m. ET.

It’s no secret what Lineker will set out to do. The Brazilian powerhouse is coming off back-to-back knockouts of Kevin Belingon and Troy Worthen, and he plans on handing Fernandes the same fate.

“Every fight I look for the knockout,” Lineker said. “This fight will be no different. I’m going for the knockout. That’s what I want to do. I always visualize myself winning by knockout, and I’m going to try to get it done by the second round.”

Fernandes hasn’t competed since defending his title against Belingon with a second-round rear-naked choke in October 2019, and the decorated submission specialist is expected to pose a serious threat to Lineker on the ground.

But Lineker, who’s a brown belt under Ocimar Costa, is confident in his ground game, which he’s learned from a man who comes from a talent-rich region for jiu-jitsu like Manaus, Brazil.

“For sure Bibiano is a very tough guy,” Lineker said. “But I’ve managed to come to the brown belt and even though he’s very tough in grappling, if he brings me to the floor, I’ll be able to show everything that I’ve learned from master, and I will show him my purist jiu-jitsu from Manaus.”
