Ladd (9-1) was scheduled for an Oct. 2 bantamweight bout towards Macy Chiasson, however Ladd missed weight and was shaky on the size, and the battle was canceled.

Despite her weight-cutting issues, Ladd has managed to put herself right in the thick of things in the bantamweight title picture. She hasn’t competed in the octagon in nearly two years since her knockout win over Yana Kunitskaya at UFC on ESPN 7.

Ladd faces a tough challenge on short notice in Dumont, who many believe has the potential to be a UFC champion down the line. She’s coming off of back-to-back wins over Felicia Spencer and Ashlee Evans-Smith.

Many UFC fans were perplexed by the promotion’s decision to reward Ladd with a short-notice main event bout against Dumont. But, with bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes facing Julianna Pena later this year, the Ladd vs. Dumont winner could potentially get a fight against Nunes with a win.

Who will win at UFC Vegas 40: Aspen Ladd or Norma Dumont?

Both Ladd and Dumont possess heavy hands with the potential to finish the fight at any moment. While this bout is set for five rounds, the action could be stopped early.

Ladd is undoubtedly one of the best female prospects in the UFC, with incredible potential at both 135 and 145 pounds. But, this will be her first fight at featherweight against a seasoned veteran in the division in Dumont.

The striking exchanges will determine the outcome of this fight. If Dumont can control the pace as she did in her last fight against Spencer, it could be a long night in the octagon for Ladd.
