Without question, the vast majority of viewers tuning in to UFC 272 on Saturday will be doing so primarily for the grudge match atop the lineup.
Colby Covington (16-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) and Jorge Masvidal (35-15 MMA, 12-8 UFC) are former teammates and training partners, as well as former good who were roommates. Now they’re bitter rivals who meet in the main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Rivalries like theirs don’t come along every day, so it’s going to naturally get the bulk of the coverage. But there are some other great fights ahead of it that deserve some shine.
Greg Hardy vs. Serghei Spivac opens the main card at heavyweight. Kevin Holland vs. Alex Oliveira could be a welterweight banger. Edson Barboza vs. Bryce Mitchell is one of those proverbial “Fight of the Night written all over it” bouts. And former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos takes on short-notice replacement Renato Moicano in the co-main event.
So outside that main event grudge match, what are the fights we need to be looking at? That’s the question we asked our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Brian “Goze” Garcia, Mike Bohn and Danny Segura, who discussed the topic with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia. Check out their responses in the video above, and don’t miss this week’s complete episode below.
“Spinning Back Clique” is released each Tuesday on MMA Junkie’s YouTube channel. You can watch the full episode in the video below.
